The Enneagram: A Tool to Transform How You View and Approach Life.

Expert trainer and Enneagram Coach, Kate Ostrem owner of 9 Open Doors, guided us through a three-hour workshop to gain a window into our habits of thinking, feeling, and behaving. We learned our Enneagram type, the benefits and challenges of our personality, and left inspired to use our personal strengths to live more fully.

Your personality type is not who you are, it’s a collection of habits developed over time. By understanding your type, you can understand that the lens you see the world through is different than the lens others see the world through. This awareness allows you to take things less personally and be less hard on yourself. By observing how your personality serves you well and how it gets in your way, helps you make conscious choices, live more intentionally, and flourish.

The Enneagram can be a tool to help you live well and flourish after 50. Learn more about how learning your Enneagram type can help you age well here.

Kate is certified with Anne Mureé and has studied with some of the most prominent thought leaders in the Enneagram community, including Ginger Lapid-Bogda, Russ Hudson, Helen Palmer, Jerry Wagner, and Beatrice Chestnut. She has been an Associate Member of the Enneagram in Business Network and is a former board member of the Minnesota Chapter of the International Enneagram Association.

Kate created her business, 9 Open Doors, to share the wisdom of the Enneagram in a practical, down-to-earth way. She loves helping her clients better understand themselves and others. From a conference in New Zealand to teams in corporate environments to a few close friends in a backyard and everything in between, she teaches the Enneagram in a meaningful way for every audience.

Facial Rolling: A Step-by-Step Tutorial

Rooted in Chinese Medicine, the gemstone facial roller is a simple and calming way to enhance your health and natural beauty.

Gemstone rollers, a beauty tool made of jade or other stones used for face massage, are being aggressively promoted online and have popped up everywhere we shop.

We were curious about the benefits but wanted to go directly to a trusted source to see if they live up to all the hype because, as you might guess, we're a bit skeptical when we see grandiose anti-aging promises for any tool.

Jalashree Pradhan, L.Ac., MS, received her Masters of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1998 from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco. She is board certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and is licensed by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. She brings both a broad and deep approach to a variety of health issues - from pain, women’s health, mental health, and geriatric care to fertility, as well as pre and post-natal care. She also has advanced training in gynecological and reproductive health. She is a practitioner of Chinese Medical Massage (Tui Na), breath-work, and Reiki, which she incorporates along with acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary, and lifestyle counseling into her private practice. She was raised in a Nepali American household and currently lives and practices in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Learn more about Jalashree here.

Jalashree graciously agreed to guide us through a 30-minute experience on how to use a roller, the benefits, and why this should be part of our daily practice! The session was amazing, and we both experienced physical benefits days after the session.

A roller can be an amazing tool to incorporate into your routine to flourish from the inside out. Working the tissues of the face and neck, this self-care tool has many benefits which include:

  • Smooth, tone, clear, brighten, and rejuvenate skin

  • Reduces puffiness

  • Improves blood flow to the face

  • Relaxes muscles

  • Helps you feel healthier

  • Look radiant from the inside out

Women’s Heart Health After 50.

As part of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation’s (MHIF) women’s health event called Hope, Health and Humor: At-Home Edition, Courtney Jordan Baechler MD, MS joined us for a small outdoor gathering of women and a conversation about women’s heart health. Many women think that heart and vascular disease only impact men at this age. However, once women reach menopause the level of risk, number of events, severity of heart disease, and even death rates are the same. Yet, our symptoms may be different, are often not taken seriously, and women not researched as much as men. This was a lively educational conversation. Dr. Baechler provided so much valuable content for the attendees we turned the summary into two blog posts. Read the first on here.
